Meg Johnson is the author of the books Inappropriate Sleepover (The National Poetry Review Press, 2014), The Crimes of Clara Turlington (Vine Leaves Press, 2015), and Without: Body, Name, Country (Vine Leaves Press, 2020). Without: Body, Name, Country was nominated for the 2020 Goodreads Choice Awards.
The Crimes of Clara Turlington won the 2015 Vignette Collection Award. Inappropriate Sleepover was the runner-up for the Rousseau Prize for Literature. Both books were also NewPages Editor's Picks.
Meg's poems have appeared in Hobart, Nashville Review, Painted Bride Quarterly, The Puritan, Sugar House Review, Verse Daily, and others. Her nonfiction has appeared in BUST, The Good Men Project, Ms. Magazine, and others.
Meg started dancing at a young age and worked professionally in the performing arts for many years. She received her MFA in creative writing from the NEOMFA Program. She was the editor of Dressing Room Poetry Journal from 2012 to 2022 and has taught writing at Iowa State University and University of Akron. She has taught classes as a guest teacher at Malone University and Columbus State. She also teaches privately.
She was the guest judge for the 2016 Vignette Collection Award for Vine Leaves Press and a judge for Poetry Out Loud (2015 State Finals, Iowa). Since 2010, she has given readings at various colleges and for various reading series. She has served as an external reviewer for University of Akron Press since 2016.
